Gdansk
Gdansk is the main port of Poland and is probably one of the best tourist destinations in Poland. Coupled with Sopot and Gdynia, which are close by, it is a center for entertainment and tourism.
Of course, everyone remembers the Shipyards and Lech Walesa, (Vowensa), and the heady days of Solidarity. Well today, Solidarity has quite a minor role in Poland; most people would tell you that Solidarity is more communist than the communists were. This is due mainly to the infighting and power struggles within the organization since the glory days.
The city is a very nice place to visit, with many walks by the Baltic Sea and even in the city center, many cafes and restaurants located at the water's edge. The main street, Long Street, is a joy to walk and contains many interesting shops. The architecture is very Germanic but nonetheless very attractive and interesting.
Sopot the neighboring city is well known for its International Music Festival, several well know artists have appeared at this annual music weekend, such as Elton John and Rod Stewart Jean Michel Jarre, but all the top Polish artists appear as well.
