Polish Airports and Air Travel

Most Polish Airports are quite new, there being a major program of rebuilding in the last 15 years most of them have good facilities and multiple airlines using them. All have nice restaurants and viewing areas with reasonable parking. Due to the present rapid increase in passengers, most regional airports are extending at present. Here is an up to date map and list of regional airports. Warsaw has opened its new terminal in 2008; whilst it has undoubtedly relieved pressure on the existing terminal building the new terminal appears to have sufficient capacity for many years to come.

A full list of Polish Airports follows; in this list, the Airports marked in Red are Commercial Airports with all facilities. If you are arriving in Poland by Air then it is cost effective, if your destination is not direct, to add the Internal Polish flight to your schedule and ticket. Normal LOT Internal tickets range between 600 and 1,200 Zloty, (150 to 300 Euros). There are many low cost airlines operating from Polish Airports, have a look at Skyscanner for information on individual airlines and services.

See the bottom of the page for some facts on Polish Airports.

FAQ's

Why are there so many Polish Airports?

During the communist times there were many flying clubs in the country, this being due to the fact that flying was not possible if not a member of such a club. The government encouraged the clubs as having potential to supply qualified flying staff in case of conflict.

Is it true that roads were used as runways?

Yes there is a stretch of road called "Dywizji Wojska Polskiego" near Gdynia that is still an emergency runway for the local military airport. There are several other roads in Poland also designated as emergency military runways. They are usually easy to spot, being wide with appropriate markings and no trees anywhere close to the road.
