Poznan

Poznan is one of the oldest cities in Poland and has been the centre of trade for several centuries. The cathedral is steeped in history and holds the tombs of the first Polish rulers.
The city hosts many large conferences and exhibitions throughout the year and much of the local infrastructure is geared to this business. If you are considering visiting the city try to go when there are no exhibitions, you will get a better deal on hotels although the same entertainment and facilities will be available to you.

It is a city of contrasts, in the center a very nicely restored Rynek, (Market Square), with many cafes, restaurants etc. the streets surrounding the square are also pleasant for a stroll. Outside of the centre the city can be shabby and in need of renovation.
